Occlusion

Space just got a whole lot sneakier. The new Occlusion Mechanic has landed in Frontier, and it’s flipping the script on how you fight, explore, and survive. If you’ve been relying on perfect sensor reads and clean sightlines, bad news: that era is over. Now, the shadows fight back.

What Is Occlusion?

In short, stuff blocks stuff. Asteroids, derelict ships, gas clouds, and giant space stations can hide things from your view and your sensors.

If a ship or structure is behind cover, it might as well not exist. You won’t see it until it decides to see you first.

1. Tactical Movement Is a Game-Changer

Use space clutter like wreck fields and debris to disappear, ambush, or escape.
The battlefield now has real terrain. Use it.
Positioning isn’t just important; it’s a weapon.

2. Exploration Just Got Riskier (and Way Cooler)

Hidden loot or lurking threats won’t show up unless you’re in the perfect spot.
Every celestial you land on puts you up against the unknown.

3. Say Goodbye to the “Magic Overview”

Your overview now reflects only your perspective.
If your fleet member sees a ship, that doesn’t mean you can see it too.
You might catch faint signals, but confirming them? That’s entirely on you.

Why You Should Care?

This isn’t some minor update. It’s a complete shift in how Frontier plays.

Every rock, wreck, and gas cloud is now part of your strategy. Awareness, angles, and timing are everything. Flying blind might get you killed—but flying smart can make you unstoppable.

Tips to Stay One Step Ahead

  • Stay mobile: Don’t linger in open space unless you’re sure it’s safe.
  • Trust your instincts: If something feels off, there’s probably a reason.

Out of sight doesn’t mean out of play. Master occlusion and become the unseen threat.
